The Bay County Veterans Council is honored to host the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, The Wall That Heals in Bay County, Florida, this November.

The Wall That Heals honors the 58,281 service members who lost their lives and all those who served defending our country during the Vietnam War.  A traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., the exhibit consists of The Wall That Heals replica and the Mobile Education Center.  This 3/4 scale replica is 375 feet in length and stands 7.5 feet high at its tallest point.

The exhibit is FREE to the public and will be on display at the Callaway Recreational Complex, Callaway, Florida. The Wall That Heals will arrive, under motorcycle escort, on November 12th and will be open 24 hours beginning Wednesday November 13,  2024, until closing Sunday, November 17th, at 2:00 p.m. City, FL

Of the 1,280 names on The Wall That Heals from Florida, twenty one (21) are from Bay County, and four (4) are from Port St. Joe.  One of the prominent names from Port St. Joe is Clifford Chester Sims, a Medal of Honor recipient and namesake of the State Veterans Nursing Home in Callaway.

School Tours – Thursday and Friday, 8am to 4pm (must be scheduled)

School Tours provide an educational experience at a level impossible even at The Memorial in Washington, D.C. Every tour is led by a Vietnam Veteran Memorial Fund (VVMF) staff member trained to engage students of all ages and backgrounds. Each group will be guided through the mobile Education Center and The Wall That Heals. Tours run approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour, including a question-and-answer session.

 

Other Guided Tours – Thursday through Saturday (must be scheduled)

-Scheduled guided tours are available on Thursday and Friday at 6 pm; and on Saturday from 8am to 4pm. Group size must be over 10 people to schedule, not to exceed 120.

-Pop-Up tours will be available from Thursday through Sunday depending on the availability of the staff and volunteers. A sign will be posted near the information tent approximately 20 minutes prior to a Pop-Up Tour.

  

Tours Include

History of The Wall That Heals - artist vision, competition that choose the design, and the significance of the layout.

Mobile Education Center - items left at The Wall That Heals, Hometown Heroes, In Memory Honor Roll, Digital displays on the history, sample of items left at The Wall That Heals.

              

Tour Information and Registration

Cost - Guided tours are free!

Reservations - Reservations are required for Guided Tours. Pop-Up tours do NOT require a reservation.

No reservations are needed to visit The Wall That Heals without taking the tour.

Group Size – We can accommodate up to 120 visitors on our guided tour. The minimum size for the tour is 10. however, if there is a smaller group wanting a guided tour, we will work to add them to another tour.
